Port Timney & the Maze of Death

Before you start, run around town inspecting barrels to find the items.
If you run to the east into the next area you can board the Sweet Candy & take a look at the statue you need to protect, unfortunately you can not converse with it. Mandatory spell is Awaken, as the optional boss here requires it to safely win. There is an Antlion outside of Port Timney that drop 960G, has a high drop rate of Potion Berry plus you can steal an extra Potion Berry. Curse will make it so you have more random encounters thereby increasing how much Gella & Potion Berries you earn. Also, at this point I recommended saving your Crest Graphs as the other spells are negligible until you gain access to the advanced spells from the Isolated Guilds. In the northern section you will find 2 large crates, Bomb them to acquire a Fast Draw Hint. Trickster is useful for getting those rare items, but the more powerful the monster the lower the success rate so try not to waste turns. After you done scampering about upgrade your weapons, armors & Hand Cannon (ATP). Next run to the pub & speak to Captain Bartholomew in the middle of the pub. He will whine about a guardian statue on his ship & a Crystal Bud. In order to access the statue you decide to recover the Crystal Bud for him. |

The Maze of Death contains incredibly easy enemies, most able to be 1-Hit KO, so don't waste MP/Ammo.
The enemies though being weak are nuisances, they tend to inflict status afflictions that make you lose control of the characters making the fights longer. Run through the entrance room until you enter the doorway. This room contains 6 doors so I will use cardinal directions to simplify which door is which & since we constantly need to return here I will aptly name it the primary room. If you screw up with moving blocks use the Pocket Watch. Move the blocks to enter the south east door. Do not step on the bubbling water on the ground, it will damage you for 10HP per step. Follow the path crossing through 2 areas until you reach the room with 4 chests. They contain Power, Hardy, Mystic & Agile -Apples. Backtrack to the primary room. Move the blocks to enter the north west door. Continue north through 2 areas until you reach the statue room. Here push the statue to the right & the screen will shake. The objective is to move all 5 statues to gain access to the Crystal Bud. Return to the primary room Move the blocks to enter the north east door. Proceed north & enter the door at the end. Turn right & at the bend enter the door to the north. Push the statue to the left. Exit the room. Run south & enter the next room. At the far south east corner of the room is a near indistinguishable button, run over & step on it to reveal stairs. You can not use Hanpan to push this type of button. Climb the revealed stairs & enter the door to the south. Continue through this area, entering the door at the end. Go through the south door. Go down the stairs walking along the east or west path to reach the Clear Chime. Dive into the void to return to the stairs, this time take the outer path to reach the statue room. Push the statue to the right. Return to the primary room. Use Escape to avoid the long run back. Move the blocks to enter the south west door. Go through the western door. Follow the hallway & enter the door at the end. Run right & enter the south door. Continue south turning left before the door. Follow the left path up & use Hanpan to get the Crest Graph. Go through the south door. Push the statue to the right & return to the previous room. Run & enter the north door. Continue north & when you see the door, look to the north west corner & you'll notice another indistinguishable button on the ground, step on it to reveal stairs. Follow the stairs down into the door at the end of the path. Push the statue to the left & return to enter the north door. Run each taking the first stairs down collecting the Heal Berry & Magic Carrot on you way east. Jump off the ledge & enter the door to the south. Follow the path east until the bend south continuing along until you enter the door. Go up the stairs, entering the door at the end. Go though the south door. Turn east & then continue north past the stairs & through the door. If you pushed all the statues around the Maze of Death then the statues here we be moved aside. The moment you pick up the Crystal Bud the enter area will begin to cave in with only 3 minutes to escape. Use Escape. At this point you can choose to fight the optional boss, Chaos if you remembered to bind Awaken. If you choose to fight Chaos follow stay in this section, otherwise go to the next section, Port Timney. Run back to the primary room. Move the block out of you way choosing any door to enter. Return to the primary room & move the middle block entering the mid-north door. Bomb the cracked wall & progress through. Run around the devil statue down the stairs & into the door. At the intersection go both east & west to collect Crest Graphs. Enter the north door. Take the stairs to the west & continue north until you reach the shiny light. |
Optional Boss Fight: Chaos
|
HP: 8000
EXP: 3900 Gella: 1500 Recommended Level: 13-16 Chaos is the only optional boss that must be done now otherwise you will not be able to fight her anymore & therefore lose the Death Rune forever. Chaos is powerful but thankfully her preference is to be an nuisance by casting Silence & Sleep rather than attacking. She has 2 powerful attacks which you should not ignore. Purple Electric which hits a party member for >190HP. Gamma Ray which hits a party member for >450HP. Chaos has a weakness to Holy so if you happened to bind Light Blow then cast it on Jack for a boost to your attack. Have Rudy continuously use Hand Cannon applying Arm Lock On when he gets it & aiding in using Violet Rose. Have Jack focus on Meteor Dive, aiding in using Violet Rose. Have Cecilia cast Awaken -> Slow Down x2 -> Arm. Down x2 -> recast Awaken every few turns -> Heal when <600HP -> Summon Ione Paua. Use Summon Guardian whenever you get it especially Ione Paua as he is Holy based & make sure Cecilia does the summoning to maximize damage. |
Maze of Death
Once you destroy Chaos, Ge Ramtos the Guardian of Death gives you his power. You then obtain the Death Rune.
The Death Rune is perfect for Cecilia as her SOR gets a decent boost.
Use Escape & return to Port Timney.

Restock your ARMs before seeing Captain Bartholomew.
Speak to Capt. Bartholomew & sell him the Crystal Bud for 5000G.
At this point if you select No it cycles forcing you to choose Yes.
Drake & his goons then enter teasing Bartholomew about not having a bride.
Bartholomew then pulls Cecilia in explaining that she is his bride.
The ceremony is the decided by Drake that it will be held tomorrow on the Sweet Candy.
After a brief dialogue with the Bartholomew, the team decides this is the only way to protect the statue.
